A New Bright Corner Laundry Room

See Before and After! New laundry room with a custom barn door (repurposed cutwork iron on cedar); new lighting overhead, repurposed lighting elsewhere; brand new gorgeous baseboard; new paint; new curtain rod and repurposed curtains; new window blinds, new laundry room flooring; new cabinets, new electric by Good Neighbors Electric (Thanks, guys!)
It’s a space like no other, with everything focused around the concepts of clean and practical. And with plenty of space carved out of what was part of the kitchen, a clever design makes it work!
Behind the Design

My Process
A space plan is a must! But not just the measurements, it is (IMO) more helpful to “see” what the new configuration will look like when completed. And yes, there will be edits along the way (See Small House Dream Kitchen for notes!). A 3D Space Plan is an available service – PS: I have 20 years of 3D technology design experience.

My Process
I am with my fave contractors every step of the way. Here, as the framing studs are built, in a carefully measured area, it is interesting to note that these are 99″ ceilings. Quite a departure from modern houses! This is especially important to note when it comes to drywall!

My Process
After some sweat, lots of mess, a few revisions, and keeping an important repurposed element front and center for the kitchen, the framing is ready! Every tiny fraction of an inch has been referenced for the important work to follow. If you don’t measure six times, something won’t fit!

My Process
A space plan made in advance of all of the work revealed that yes, the doorway at this end of what was the kitchen would have to be moved – about a foot!

My Process
This new opening was carefully calculated for the perfect barn door – a great accent for the new dining space. See other portfolio work for that result (and see it in the “After” photo above).

My Process
Now the kitchen was separated from the laundry area, and at the same time, provided a new wall for appliances. The kitchen makeover was not for the faint of heart! See Small House Dream Kitchen portfolio review!
