What Does Sustainable Design Mean?

My mission is to create beauty with sustainability. We pay attention to the smallest details, incorporating sustainable materials and repurposing cherished objects, blending with present day features for stunning results. I recognize salvaged objects as profound design elements, integrating them with such seamless elegance that the final interior not only comforts occupants but wows them with its sophisticated, responsible artistry.

But what I love, and am pretty good at, is seeing beauty in what someone else might see as used and would want to discard, and knowing how to place it in the right spot, or creatively use in a different way.

Here are 8 bullet points related to sustainable, repurposed, and environmentally friendly interior design:

🎨 Upcycling and Repurposing Furniture: Giving new life to old or discarded items (e.g., turning a vintage dresser into a bathroom vanity or using reclaimed wood for shelving) to reduce waste and demand for new resources.

🌿 Use of Non-Toxic/Low-VOC Materials: Prioritizing paints, finishes, adhesives, and sealants with low or zero Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) to ensure better indoor air quality and minimize harmful off-gassing.

🧺 Incorporating Natural and Renewable Fibers: Choosing textiles like organic cotton, linen, hemp, jute, or bamboo for upholstery, drapery, and rugs, as they are grown with less environmental impact and are often biodegradable.

💡 Energy-Efficient Lighting: Installing LED or CFL bulbs and maximizing natural daylight to significantly reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills.

♻️ Sourcing Recycled and Reclaimed Materials: Utilizing materials like recycled glass countertops, reclaimed wood flooring, salvaged metal accents, or tiles made from recycled content.

🌎 Choosing Durable and High-Quality Items: Investing in well-made, long-lasting furniture and decor that won’t need frequent replacement, promoting a “buy less, choose well” philosophy.

💧 Water-Saving Fixtures: Installing low-flow toilets, showerheads, and faucets to conserve water, especially in kitchen and bathroom design.

🌱 Integrating Biophilic Design Elements: Bringing nature into the space with indoor plants, natural light, and patterns/textures reminiscent of the outdoors to improve well-being and air quality.
